A large group of P5-7 pupils attended the monthly South Edinburgh Schools’ Basketball League today at the Crags.
The bulk of our pupils were split into Preston Street A and Preston Street B. There was also a Blaze team (featuring two of our pupils), as well as a fourth team representing St Peter’s Primary School.
As there were only four teams this time round, the games lasted longer than usual and our players were exhausted by the end!
As always at the Crags, excellent coaching was provided by members of the Blaze under 16 and under 18 development squads.
We are extremely grateful to these young people who give up their time to coach the primary players and act as excellent role models.
It’s great to see our pupils progressing well both as a group and as individuals – well done to everyone for their efforts. We are pleased to note that an increasing number of our pupils are progressing to the Blaze boys’ and girls’ development squads at various age groups.
Basketball club will continue to run at Preston Street on Mondays and Wednesdays for another three weeks. The final sessions will be held on Monday 15th and Wednesday 17th June.
The final Schools’ Basketball League will be held at the Crags on the afternoon of Friday 19th June, from 4-6pm. We hope as many of our young people as possible will make it there as it promises to be a great event (and for our P7s it will be their last ever opportunity to represent Preston Street!)
We are pleased to confirm that the club will continue to operate next year, thanks to continued support from Blaze and the Crags. The club will once again be free of charge and open to all pupils from P5 to P7. It is likely that we will run one session each week for P5 pupils (and possibly P4 too depending on availability), and one session for P6-7 pupils. Details will be posted at the start of next session.
Meantime, please remember that open sessions continue to run for all pupils from P1 to P7 at the Crags Sports Centre, where children can come along and develop their basketball skills. These take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4-5:15pm, and Saturdays from 10-11:15am. A small charge is made for these sessions. Please contact the Crags if you wish to enquire about the open sessions, or just turn up on the day.
Finally, the Crags are running basketball camps over the summer holidays for P1-7 children. Pupils can come for the day or a whole week, with sessions running from 9am to 1pm each day. Again, contact the Crags for details of this fantastic opportunity.
