The last two weeks have been both busy and successful for P3/4. We have been working hard in maths on place value and have learned to round numbers to the nearest 10 and 100. We are continuing to practice our spelling words every morning through active spelling activities which we are really enjoying.
We have had lots of exciting lessons on Ancient Egypt. Last week we all wrote our names in hieroglyphics, writing these on paper that we stained to look like sheets of papyrus. We have also been learning about the river Nile and how this played a significant part in the Ancient Egyptians lives. The class made shadufs which the Ancient Egyptians used to lift the water out of the river. The class had a variety of materials which they had to select from and investigate which materials made a strong/working shaduf. We tested all of them out with water and found that the shadufs made from straws or pencils were the strongest.
