A fabulous start to 2017

A Happy New Year to everyone! Primary 5 have come back from their Christmas holidays ready to learn and their enthusiasm has been infectious.

This week we have been working hard on our numeracy skills particularly on improving the speed and accuracy of our times tables. We will be focusing on this for the next few weeks and the children have been asked to practice these at home as much as possible so that they are all at their fingertips. Good knowledge of the times tables are critical to much that follows later on in the term.

We have also been revisiting our favourite books in light of our holiday reading and we have been practising some of the skills we will be using in our literature circle groups which are starting next week.

We have started our Topic for this term which is the Human Body and how we keep it healthy. We will be looking at the functions of the major components of the body and discussing how we can take good care of them. The children have thrown themselves into this topic and I feel they will keep me on my toes with their good questioning and analysing skills.

Roll on week 2…….
