Hello and welcome back to our new school term. I hope you all had a lovely holiday.
This week has been Friendship Week at school and we have been learning about what friendship actually means and that there can be different types of friendships. We then spent time thinking about what happens when we fall out with our friends. We developed a list of strategies to help us when we are having problems with our friends. We shared all our learning with the rest of the school at Assembly.
This week we have been developing our skills with money. We are all confident in adding two or more items together and we have been learning about giving change. We have looked at change from £1 or £5 and we were able to solve problems using our knowledge of money. Next week, as part of our assessment, we will be having a pretend cafe, where we will have to order items off a menu, add it all together, make a receipt and give change. Below are pictures of the some of the menu’s we have created.
This term we will be focusing of multiplication. Next week we will have a quick recap of the 2, 5 and 10 times tables but at this stage of development, I would expect most of the children to know these tables accurately. We will then group the 3, 6 and 9 together and the 4 and 8 together. Using strategies such as counting on, doubling and learn it fact triangles to help the children to recall their tables quickly and accurately. I will be setting a multiplication challenge, so look out for you children mentioning that and encourage them to practise as much at home as they can.
Our new topic this term is The Rainforest, we will be learning this through a storyline approach, where the children will develop a character as a member of a tribe that lives in the Amazon Rainforest. Updates to follow.
