Week ending 27th Jan

Over the past two weeks primary 1 have been working hard to learn the sound made when 2 letters are ‘glued’ together! Just when we thought that we had reached our target by learning the 26 initial sounds a new target was set! There is so much to learn in primary 1. We have been working on ‘sh’, ‘ch’, ‘th’ and ‘wh’.

In numeracy we have been linking adding on 1 and taking away 1 with counting forward or back. This makes us faster when we calculate as we don’t have to count out 4, then add on 1, then count them all and say 5! We just have to say the next number! EASY!!!

We are learning the rules for group reading. We have to point to the words as they are said. If we don’t know a word we get thinking time and then use a hand signal if we want help from our group. The children are very enthusiastic about their new books and have been bringing books they enjoy reading at home in to share at story time.
