Despite the duller and wetter weather conditions, Primary 5 continued with their John Muir Award enthusiastically in Holyrood Park today.
The theme for this trip was conservation and preservation. The children began their afternoon working hard on a litter pick in the Innocent Railway. It was amazing how much litter they managed to collect in an hour!
We then moved onto the Wells o Wearie to make some birdfeeders from pipecleaners and Cheerios that we then hung on the trees for the birds – this was definitely an activity the children were keen to replicate at home!
We finished our afternoon playing a game that made us think about how animals’ bodies have evolved to help them to eat and survive – it was quite tricky catching our food wearing long beaks as the photographs illustrate.
Next week, owing to the holiday Monday, we will be spending all of Thursday in the Park with Ranger Lily – I hope the weather will be slightly kinder to us!
