P7 Christmas Concert

IMG-20171220-WA0004Our P7 year group were very enthusiastic participants in this year’s James Gillespie’s High School Christmas Concert at the Usher Hall.

P7 pupils from all the cluster primaries (Preston Street, Sciennes, James Gillespie’s, Royal Mile, Tollcross and Parkside) joined S1 pupils from JGHS on stage to form a combined choir. As you can hear from the video, the result was impressive!

The P7 / S1 choir performed two songs which can be heard in the video above. Our pupils also joined all 700 concert participants on stage for the finale, a stirring version of ‘Highland Cathedral’ featuring a huge cast of musicians including the school’s pipe band.

Primary pupils have participated in the JGHS Christmas Concert for a number of years now and it has become a valuable part of the transition process. For those pupils who will be moving on to James Gillespie’s, it is a great way for them to feel like they are a part of the high school already; for those who will be heading off to other high schools, the experience will stand them in good stead.

As well as aiding transition to high school, participating in a large concert in such a prestigious venue is also a great opportunity for personal achievement. We are always very keen for all our P7 pupils to take part and once again we had virtually 100% attendance, with only a couple of pupils missing out due to illness.

We were also delighted to see many of our former pupils taking part in the concert as high school students. It is fantastic for us to see our young people moving on and enjoying success and personal achievement as they progress through their school career.

Well done to everyone who contributed to making the concert such a success!
