What is a podcast?

A podcast is a series of prerecorded audio episodes, a bit of a mix between a radio show and an audio book. Podcasts can be listened to on sites such as Spotify or Apple Podcasts (formerly iTunes) and they can be listened to from almost any device and at any time. Podcasts come in many different genres from true crime to comedy and everything in between. Many people listen to a podcast in the same way they listen to music – whilst driving, cleaning, relaxing and even in the bath!

With podcast popularity growing at an exponential rate, we’ve decided that a school podcast presents a great opportunity to engage with our families and wider school community to showcase the amazing work being carried out in the school. We will aim to distribute our podcast episodes on a fortnightly basis and listeners can tune in using the free link below.

Throughout the year, the children will all have the opportunity of recording and editing the podcasts, researching and scripting the news that will be shared with our school community. A truly immersive and inclusive learning opportunity for the 21st century.

How and where to listen:

You can listen to our podcast on almost any device by accessing our podcast channel for free here: https://anchor.fm/preston-street-primary-school.

You can also listen in via your usual listening platforms by searching for ‘Preston Street Primary Podcast’. Please be aware however that if listening on distribution sites like Spotify, Apple Podcasts or Google Play, a subscription is usually required.

When an episode is released on our free channel, it will also be available on Spotify immediately. It typically takes between 3 and 7 days to get to other listening platforms.

We will send out a communication to you when we issue a new episode but if you just can’t wait and need to be the first to hear it, you can subscribe to the RSS feed of our channel and you will be notified immediately when we release a new episode. The RSS link is available on our channel.

We are also offering local businesses and services the opportunity to sponsor our episodes. For a small donation, you will get scripted promotion of your business in an episode. If you’re a local businessperson and want to target local families, then what better a way than to reach a captive and engaged school community of around 500 adults and children? Money raised from podcast sponsorship will be put directly into our Better World Group fund so that we can assist families in need whenever we need to.
